"Kids Day".
April 17: "Sharpen Your Negotiating Skills", at Eulipia Restaurant
Upstairs in Eulipia's private dining room, we began with an hour of great networking, hors d'ouevres, and cocktails. Several long-time members attended after missing a few recent meetings -- nice to see them back. President Barbara Schroeder opened the meeting with an announcement of our special new membership rate for several members from a single company. Our two Affiliate Spotlights
featured outstanding presentations by Turner Hayes, of Elite Entertainment, and Robbie Schlosser, of the Magnolia Jazz Band. Robbie also awarded a $50 Eulipia gift certificate to Chuck Cali, of Cali Productions, for the "Refer a Friend" raffle. This raffle is for everyone who either forwards our email invitation or brings a colleague to our meeting. Dinner (see the menu) featured Caesar salad, Angel Hair Pasta, Chicken Breast, Grilled Steak, and Roasted Salmon. Guest speaker Brad Warren's program "How to Get What You Want While Giving Them What They Need" was a fast-moving, interactive workshop, which taught us how to prepare for
negotiation, distinguish "positions" from "needs", and use appropriate
questioning skills. We all negotiate every day, both personally and professionally, and with the tips Brad provided, we're sure to become expert negotiators.
Six wonderful raffle prizes included a $100 gift certificate to Tresca Restaurant (donated by Nadia Nassar, of the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara), a magnum bottle of Northstar Merlot (donated by Kimberly Geronimos, of Ste. Michelle Wine Estates), a free portrait sitting (donated by Jordan River, of Jordan River Photography), a $100 certificate for Rentals & a 20% off certificate for Specialty Linens (donated by Trish Johnson, of Stuart Rentals), Wine, Chocolate, Popcorn & Lunch for 4 at Cafe Too (donated by Greg Casella, of Catered Too), and a Men's Grooming Gift Set (donated by Mel Gilman, of Mel's Events by George).

of the "regulars" showed up, and several new members attended for the
first time. Our buffet style dinner featured delicious Rotisserie
Chicken, Smokehouse BBQ Riblets, and King Salmon Fillet. Diane Eisenhauer, of Events of Excellence, led us through our centerpiece challenge -- each table of six constructing a
centerpiece from "scratch", using a dozen items commonly found in every
kitchen workroom. A wonderful opportunity to practice our teambuilding
skills, as well as learn a few new tips about decor and centerpieces.
Our Affiliate Spotlights
featured outstanding presentations by Patrick Duffek, of Headliner Productions, and Todd Danen, of Premier Video Productions. brought us into the 21st century with an informative, thorough introduction to the ins-and-outs of email marketing. Incredible handouts helped her program range from the "big picture" of what and why, to some technical details of how to do it, and we're all sure to see dramatic results in the near future. Our Affiliate Spotlights featured outstanding presentations by Calee Grabinsky, of Calee's Lilies, and Natti Pierce-Thomson, of North American Theatre Technology. Raffle prizes included a bottle of wine (donated by Leanne Pomellito, of Savory and Sweet), a $50 Gift Certificate and all our centerpieces (donated by Calee Grabinski, of Calee's Lilies), and a Gift Certificate to the annual Mission College Hospitality Industry Dinner (donated by Haze Dennis, of the Mission College Hospitality Program).

As part of the program, the Executive Chef spoke to the group about the menu selection and the way the items were prepared and how the wines paired with each course. This extra education was great for all the members, especially the Caterer Managers and Owners of catering facilities. Our guest speaker, Wendy Hart, of Wendy Hart Coaching, gave some very real and helpful tips on moving past reluctance to help with phone sales/cold calls and other items in life that could hold us back. A very freeing experience to put into practice.
